Dheepak Gobinath
Director of
Financial Reporting
Dheepak is a first-year Master’s student in Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, originally from France. He is a recipient of the Nikola Tesla Electrical Engineering Scholar Award from Columbia University and holds a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Before pursuing his graduate studies, he gained industry experience as a software engineer.
His research interests span the intersection of artificial intelligence, wireless communication, networking, and quantum computing, with a focus on brain-inspired computing and decision-making mechanisms. He aims to leverage AI in diverse domains, from finance and cognitive systems to next-generation wireless technologies.
In addition to his core academic pursuits, Dheepak is a Researcher at Platt Labs, part of the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative, where he collaborates on projects exploring the neural and cognitive underpinnings of human decision-making, applying machine learning and signal processing to neuroscience data.
He is also a Junior Fellow at the Penn Center for Innovation (PCI), contributing to interdisciplinary technology transfer and innovation efforts.
His academic journey is marked by several accolades, including the Hagan International Scholarship, the Quantum Excellence Award from IBM’s Summer Program, a 100% merit-based scholarship from Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business (2022), and a DELF B1 certification in French, conferred by the French Ministry of National Education in 2021.
Beyond academics, Dheepak is committed to leadership and service. He currently serves as Co-President of the Electrical and Systems Engineering Graduate Association. He is also an active member of the Penn Aerospace Club (PAC). Passionate about mentorship and outreach, he volunteers with the AI Ethics and Algorithms Program at West Philadelphia High School through Penn’s Netter Center for Community Partnerships, and serves as an industry mentor for the IEEE Student Mentorship Program (Fall 2024), where he was selected among the top 75 professionals out of 700 applicants to guide senior undergraduate students.
He is the Director of Financial Reporting for GAPSA (UPenn), where he plays a key leadership role in overseeing the organization’s financial health. In this capacity, he is responsible for managing budgets, preparing and analyzing detailed financial reports. His work supports effective decision-making by providing accurate insights into funding allocations and expenditures. Through this role, he promotes fiscal responsibility, transparency, and long-term financial sustainability, while also collaborating with other student leaders to strengthen engagement and strategic planning across the university’s graduate and professional student community.
