Information about the panelists:

Philip Neff: Philip graduated from Brown University in 2005 with a BA in Business Economics, and after working at Susquehanna International Group as a Trader, went to Wharton where he earned his MBA in Quantitative Marketing (WG'11). After working at various startups in Philadelphia, including his own hedge fund, Gauss Financial Group, he joined Sidecar Interactive, where he worked in Business Operations, prior to joining the Data Science Team. After four years at Sidecar, he moved to Wawa, where he currently works as a Senior Data Scientist and is able to combine his business and DS backgrounds in projects spanning all facets of the business.

Ethan Tan: Ethan Tan is the Director of Data and Analytics at Pennsylvania Voice. He graduated from the School of Social Policy & Practice with an MS in Social Policy in 2017. A Malaysian with undergraduate degrees in English and Political Science, he now lives in Philadelphia with his family and two cats.

Chris Snider: Chris Snider is a data scientist at the Center for Health Care Transformation and Innovation at Penn Medicine. In this role, Chris combines and analyzes data across multiple sources to support exploratory analyses, project evaluation, and data-driven decision-making. He also applies machine learning and statistical techniques to develop and test predictive models. He is passionate about making data more accessible and interpretable to his team and partners across Penn Medicine. Chris received his MPH from Drexel University and a graduate certificate in biomedical informatics from the University of Pennsylvania. Chris is currently pursuing an additional master's degree in data science at the University of Pennsylvania.

Erik Nordgren: Dr. Nordgren first came to Penn back in the 90's as a graduate student, eventually earning a Master's in physics and a Ph.D. in computational physical chemistry. His thesis work and subsequent research as a postdoc and staff scientist (all in the same lab, of Dr. Kent Blasie) involved molecular dynamics simulations of proteins and biomembranes. About six years ago he transitioned into computational biology, and is now a staff bioinformatician in the lab of Dr. Junhyong Kim in the Biology department. His current work touches on numerous projects involving single-cell genomics. For example, the Kim lab is engaged in a data-gathering effort to create a "molecular atlas" of the human female reproductive system, as part of the national HuBMAP consortium. His daily work includes a variety of data management and data analysis activities. Outside the lab, Erik has occasional side gigs as a semi-professional singer, and is a proud husband and father and lover of cats.
